Wii Strikers
I finally got my hands on Super Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii, which I’ve been [not-so] patiently waiting for… I had the original Strikers on the GC, and this marks the second online multiplayer game for the Wii. Unfortunately, I think our router is dying a slow and painful death (I’ve been noticing weird traffic trends over the last while, like one computer will get the whole pipe for a long period of time…), and it’s causing some trouble with the wifi…
In other Wii news here at the Schmidt house, a few weeks ago Robyn and I “upgraded” our wii controllers for real tennis rackets. Neither of us had played tennis before (I played competitive badminton in grade school and Robyn plays the occasional squash game, so we’re not unfamiliar to racket sports) and it’s quite the experience. It’s providing me with a good door-knocking training alternative to the treadmill.
I actually find the whole thing interesting. We decided to start playing tennis because we played it on a videogame. There’s something you don’t hear in all the hubbub about the evils of videogaming. This isn’t the first time I’ve been around people who have considered attempting something in real life after playing the video game. The fellows at 110 seemed enamored with the idea of skateboarding after playing Tony Hawk. Yes, video games are a couch potato’s entertainment (well, except for some games on the Wii, of course), but there are times when they encourage outside activities. Sometimes it’s nice to know the rules of a game, and deciding that you like it, before attempting the real thing.
That said, until there’s a real version of soccer with an electric fence, red shells, stars, and koopas, I might just stick with tennis.
