Last night I caught a section on the National talking about the Dominion Institute of Canada’s mock exam. There were some… interesting… results. Apparently only 32% of us know how many provinces and territories we have…
Since I can’t find a copy of the quiz separate from the results, I’m posting the questions below, and you can use the results page to check your answers. Also, they have a Quiz about Canadian History here… Give it a try.

I will be playing around with a number of templates over the next few days. Don’t be surprised if the site looks different every once and awhile…
Last night I got the opportunity to sit down for a drink with weblogger CalgaryGrit, who is very well read in the Canadian political blogosphere, by people on all sides of the political spectrum, not just grits. Hell, I read it…
We chatted about a number of things, including, of course, my federal election campaign. He’s currently working on Alnoor Kassam’s bid for Calgary Mayor. It’s always interesting to bounce thoughts off of people, especially those who regularly comment on the goings-on of politics.

Today was actually the first day I had ever set foot in a courtroom, there to hear the arguments between the Members and the Conservative Party of Canada.
At around 3:30pm, the final arguments wrapped up and judgment was reserved for a later time. That didn’t surprise me any. What also didn’t surprise me is that a lot of the arguments on the Conservative side had to do with the judicial system’s authority over internal party matters.
A lot of the debate was technicalities of the arbitration process, and the judgment, depending on what is considered moot or not, could very well have longstanding impact on Alberta’s arbitration act, as well as candidate nomination processes around the country.
I got the opportunity to speak briefly with Dr. Jim Hawkes, former MP of Calgary West, defeated in 1993 by his former aide who ran for Reform (Hawkes was a PCer. Oh, his former aide. Harper)… Dr. Hawkes is one of the eleven members involved in the court battle with the CPC.
On the other side of the room, there seemed to be some very powerful members of the CPC listening intently to the case. One was definitely a member of the CPC’s National Council, and the other I got the feeling was pretty high up as well - perhaps a high-up adviser. Nonetheless, the “Old Boys Club” was represented well there.
I’ll be watching the Court of Queen’s Bench website for the decision. I’m also very much looking forward to this election, whenever it is.
