You can join, but you can’t vote…

From this article

An unprecedented move by the party’s national council to deny voting rights to new members in Calgary West is curtailing any potential challenges to Anders in a court-ordered second nomination battle.

I’ll post more on this later…

Ask the Wife

The Post has an article about Duceppe’s day-long candidacy for the PQ and how important it was for him to have his wife involved in his political decisions.
Next time, Duceppe will ask his wife first

You know, I seem to remember another political leader in Canada realizing that before an important decision, you may want to ask your wife. The King of Alberta, Mr. Klein himself, was leader-to-be of the Alberta Liberal Party for a few hours until his wife got word (no, he was not jumping ship from the PC Association of Alberta… this was back when he was mayor of Calgary). We all know how that ended up…

Robyn’s employment

Yesterday, Robyn accepted a job offer from Dynastream Innovations (owned by Garmin Ltd.) based in Cochrane, AB. She is going to be an embedded software developer (firmware) for heart monitoring equipment.

Some of you may remember something similar that Robyn was involved in a few years ago… This is really nothing short of the perfect career for Robyn… and considering we live on the NW edge of the city, the commute is fantastic!

I’m writing this from my PC…

Yes, it only took all bloody weekend; Between detecting the gremlins with a modified Geiger counter, imbuing my chef’s knives with magic to take out the gremlins, and then replacing half of the components in my case… my PC is back up and running.

Now I’m playing the Windows Update game (my key was for XP Pro OEM Pre-SP2…)…

It turns out my Prog Files partition and most of my boot partition were intact. In fact, my Firefox and Thunderbird profiles were moved flawlessly onto the new drive and work great… So one PSU, two case fans, and one DVD-RW all kaput. Although the case fans I knew were coming - my case & PSU were el-cheapo at the time, since I was working for Staples and had little $ for a PC - so those weren’t a surprise. One new HDD because I no longer trust the old one (which is fine by me since now I’m booting off my SATA II connection instead of IDE). Basically, my chip, mobo, and graphics card remain the same…

It was time for a reformat anyway.

Oh man, this would have really been bad in the middle of an election (well, I would have extracted my data drive and used it with Robyn’s machine, so it wouldn’t have been horrible… just annoying).
