On Friday, Robyn and I left for Lethbridge to spend Christmas with my parents and my sister. We had our traditional Christmas day on Christmas Eve, since Robyn and I had to be back on Monday to pick up her parents from the airport. I brought the Wii down for my parents to try, and everyone played (and had a blast). We even rented Rayman Raving Rabbids, which is an awesome game, and that kept us occupied for the weekend. We also played a board game called Deflection, and I will have to get one for myself…
On Christmas Day Robyn’s parents came to town and will be with us until New Year’s Eve. Unfortunately, I have to work for the next few days, so I won’t be able to spend much time with them. At least Robyn’s done her schooling and can be home for a few days.
I have more books to read now, not that I’ve read through my current list already, but, I won’t be short anytime soon… Among my new books to read are Paul Wells’ first, Right Side Up, and a massive book by John English, who some of you had as a Prof at UW, called Citizen of the World: the Life of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Volume One: 1919-1968.
Also, Patrick’s wedding is only a few weeks away. I need to find someone to crash with in Ottawa from Jan 17 to 21…
And I continue to work away at politics stuff. I’ve got a lot to do in the next few weeks…

There’s a really good writeup at 1up called The Gaming Generation: Once a gamer, always a gamer. It simply talks about our generation and how we continue to play in our adult lives, in marriage and in families.

This has been a very busy week. As you all know, Robyn successfully defended on Monday, whereas I have been working a long week as our division has moved into a new building (and I get a nice new office).
The House is adjourned until the end of January, but it sounds like Gilles is ready to collapse the government and Dion’s readying the troops. I can safely say the next two months are going to be exceptionally busy…

Well it’s time for one of those rare “Robyn posts”. This morning I had my Master’s thesis defense. It was a long 2 hours but I am happy to say that I passed with the highest ranking, meaning only minor edits to my thesis and that everyone on the committee signed off except for my supervisor, who just approves the final version of the thesis. So I should have everything fixed up and handed in before the Christmas holidays, which will feel great. For anyone who doesn’t know, my thesis involved studying atrial arrhythmias (bad heart rhythms in the upper two chambers of the heart), and included instrumentation, experimental and signal processing work so that we can study and visualize these heart rhythms. The thesis itself is a 162-page monster, but then again I couldn’t have my Master’s thesis shorter than my 4th year project report…
Anyway, starting in January, I will no longer be a student (gasp!). I’ll be working at the Foothills Hospital as a research assistant. If all goes well (meaning funding and other issues get sorted out), then I may be starting a PhD in the spring/summer. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that NSERC will come through - I made it past the university cut at least.
In any case, that’s what’s new with me…I’ll retreat to my usual quietness now :)
