When I was in Lethbridge last, I was chatting with Paul Wells’ (half) brother Dave, who informed me that Mr. Inkless Wells is coming out with a book about the 2006 Election entitled Right Side Up: the Fall of Paul Martin and the Rise of Stephen Harper’s New Conservatism. One more book to add to my “top shelf” of Politica Canadiana…
You can, of course, catch Paul Wells’ daily musings through the tubes.

The Conservatives are reinvest in participaction, which is, of course, getting a lot of negative flak. Not because encouraging people to be active is a bad thing, but $5.5M by 2009-2010 seems a bit much for the gentle encouragement of advertising…
What I find odd about this whole thing is that it was the Liberals who collapsed the program, and the Conservatives who want to bring it back. It seems to me the Conservatives would be better off going with the normal right-wing belief that ‘people can do more with their money’ and provide more tax incentives for more participation by both youth and adults in fitness programs. Of course, not everyone makes enough money to be able to use those tax incentives, so an influx of money into grants or subsidization for fitness programs would also befit the situation.

A new lobby group has formed in the United States known as SEA (or SEFORA) - Scientists and Engineers for America. The group itself looks to endorse candidates for elections who respect science and technology within the creation of public policy.
While I agree with the concept, I think the idea really is to elect politicians who embrace the fact that they do not know everything, who have the ability to trust experts within their respectful fields, and who understand that, as Benjamin Disraeli once said, “there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.” Basically, you want politicians who have the ability to listen, to analyze information, and to think.
