Don’t get me wrong - I think ‘per capita’ is a decent measure of a number of, well, per capita statistics… but, here’s an argument I’d like to throw at McGuinty after the recent failed talks between the premiers (and McGuinty getting a lot of flak):
In its most basic form, Liberal versus Conservative tends to be the Government can do more with your money than you can, and vice versa. That is, basic Liberal dogma states that if everyone gives $1 to the government, they can go farther with that dollar than if everyone spent it individually. In some cases it tends to be true. In others, not so much.
But when McGuinty, the Liberal Premier of Ontario, is complaining that Canada’s largest province receives $86 less per capita than other provinces, I have to wonder if the basic Liberal belief should come into play here. Since there’s so many more people, wouldn’t you require less per capita to stretch it as far as a province with far less? I mean, if you believe that each person can do less with $1 than the government pooling it, could it not also be true that a set of people can do less with $1 than a number of sets?

It’s been pretty busy around here - my boss and my boss’ boss are both away, so I’ve assumed additional responsibilities around the shop (and picked up additional phone calls at nights and weekends)… I won’t be free of these chains until August 7th. It hasn’t been bad, it’s just been busy…
I am uplifted by the fact that the sequel to one of the funniest video games ever built, one which came out of the Lucasarts empire of the early 1990s which brought games like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle, is close to release… Some of you may remember some… animated… freelance police… by the name of Sam and Max…

With Harper’s recent political… decisions… regarding the handling of the situation in the Middle East, now is the time for the Opposition to go on the offensive. Combine it with the supposed misuse of campaign contributions aka conference registrations, and the lack of the 5th priority of the Harper Government that was promised us (has anyone heard the term ‘waiting times’ since this government was elected?)…
