Fixed Dates

As many of you know, I am not necessarily in favour of fixed election dates (if someone can convince me that the pros outweigh the cons, I will be for it). However, it looks like it is something the PM and his party are discussing with the other parties. Truth is, I would imagine if you asked average Canadians, they would be for it. I’m not necessarily against it - but I have yet to see a plan that addresses all concerns.

Harper is looking at a system where elections take place 4 years after the one prior to it. It would still allow the government to fall at any time, whether in a majority or minority, still in line with the traditional rules of parliament. Within something like this, there’s two issues I would like to see addressed.

Flags at Half-Mast

It looks like Rick Mercer and I had the same thoughts.

It is my suggestion that along with Members of Parliament, Senators and Members of the Privy Council, we as a nation desire to honour men and women in uniform who pay the ultimate price while serving their country.

Lower the flag, Prime Minster.
